JSM: HSK 3 – LauttSK 1

On January 15, 2012, the JSM 2nd division match Helsingin Shakkiklubi 3 – Lauttasaaren Shakkikerho ended 4–1:

1. Matti Kauranen (2137) – Jyrki Heikkinen (2067) 1–0
2. Unto Räisä (2095) – Per Ertbjerg (2062) 0–1
3. Matti Uimonen (2114) – Evgeny Sobenin (1926) 1–0
4. Tauno Turtiainen (1962) – Timo Joutsivuo (1928) 1–0
5. Jan Varpanen (1997) – Kimmo Turtiainen (1792) 1–0

The match was played in the new Shakkiareena, Hiomotie 10. Based on this first impression, it is very spacious, peaceful and clean place to play. Quite an improvement to the old Shakkikoti, which was often too crowded and noisy.

Because HSK 1 and HSK 2 were not playing, HSK 3 had got their three strongest players to play, so they were clearly favorites in the match. After this win, they will most likely win our section. The last round will be played on February 11.

Our only winner Per has an impressive result 4/4 in this JSM season. He was 2 pawns down after 16 moves, but White started to lose his advantage in the following position, where Black had just played 29...Qc3:

Instead of the best move 30.Qxf5!, the game continued 30.Qf3 Qxe3+ 31.Qxe3 Rxe3 32.Rd5 Rb3 33.Rad1 Kc8 34.axb7+ Kxb7 35.Rxf5 Rxb5 36.c6+ Kb6 37.Rf7 Rb2 38.g3 h5 39.Rh7 a5 40.Rxh5 a4 41.Ra1 Rd8

42.f5 a3 43.f6 a2 44.Rf5 would be equal, but after 42.Re5?? a3 43.Ree1 a2 Black won in move 56.
