In the 3rd round of the JSM 2011–2012 tournament, October 16, 2011, the 2nd division match Etelä-Vantaan Shakki 3 – Lauttasaaren Shakkikerho ended 2–1:
I was happy that my opponent accepted a draw after only 13 moves because I was uneasy in an unfamiliar position. I thought he had a good advantage, but according to Houdini the game was quite even.
After a while, Per crushed his opponent, Evgeny got a draw, and Mikko lost. Hence, the score was 1–1, and only the decisive game Kauppala–Hallenberg left. Pekka had created yet another typical thriller, that is, extremely complicated position in a mutual time trouble:
According to Houdini, after 34.Bxh6 or 34.Qe4 White has a small advantage. The game continued 34.Rg1 Kh8 35.Nh4? Qe7, and Black got the advantage, which he soon realized into a full point. Instead, White would have the advantage after 35.Bd2 or 35.Qc3.
After 2 wins out of 3 matches, and 3 matches left, we will need help from other teams in order to win our section. The next maches will be played on January 14–15, 2012.
As usual, all our games played during the weekend are in the club's PGN archives.
